My name is Dr. Jasmine Hines and I am the Assistant Professor of Music Education and Faculty Music Education Field Experience Coordinator for the Glauser School of Music at Kent State University. Since 2014 I have had the wonderful opportunity of teaching elementary and middle school general music and choir in public and charter schools in Georgia and Florida.
My research interests include Critical Race Theory and Black Feminist Thought within music education as well as popular music education. I have presented my research at the Mountain Lake Colloquium, International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education, and Suncoast Music Education Symposium,
During my free time, I am an avid traveler and novice hiker. I enjoy reading fictional and non-fictional works by feminist writers such as Roxane Gay and Morgan Jerkins, listening to podcasts that focus on pop culture such as "The Read" "Around the Way Curls and "Lovett or Leave It", and spending time with my nieces and nephews.
